Minnesota Bilingual Seal

Congratulations to Oscar Bello Munoz, Fabian Maldonado and Michael Melco for earning a Minnesota Bilingual Seal.

A Bilingual Seal is an official recognition from the Minnesota Department of Education awarded to high school graduates who demonstrate proficiency in two or more languages, including English. Oscar and Fabian earned their Seal for proficiency in Spanish and English,  and Michael earned his for proficiency in Hungarian and English. Michael is only the second student in Minnesota in the last six years to earn a Seal in Hungarian. The first person who earned it was his sister, who graduated from Delano two years ago. This Seal signifies that a student can communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms of another language, meeting high standards of academic and real-world language use.

To attain the Bilingual Seal, students must meet specific criteria set by the State of Minnesota and the school district. These may include earning qualifying scores on language proficiency assessments, completing designated coursework in the target language, or providing evidence of bilingualism through portfolios or interviews. Earning a Bilingual Seal not only honors students' multilingual skills but also enhances their college, scholarship, and career opportunities.
